Women and the Art of Home -- Creating Spaces that Inspire, Comfort, and Tell a Story

March is the month dedicated to honoring the strength, creativity, and influence of women in every aspect of life. At Likha+Mundo, we are proud to cap off the Women’s Month celebration by sharing the voices of four remarkable homemakers who have infused their homes with beauty, meaning, and artistry. Each of these women is passionate about meaningful home styling and deeply values Filipino artisan crafts. Their stories showcase their unique styles while highlighting their dedication to sustainability, cultural heritage, and creating a nurturing home for their families.

TESS: The Balance of Beauty and Functionality

For Tess, home styling is about striking the perfect balance between functionality and aesthetic appeal. She wants her home to be both comfortable and a true reflection of her personal style. By mixing clean lines with natural elements like wood, Tess creates a space that feels both modern and inviting. She embraces different design styles but ensures they blend cohesively, forming a home that is warm and harmonious.

Motherhood has further shaped her perspective on homemaking. For her, a home isn’t just about how it looks—it’s about how it feels. She has learned to embrace imperfection, realizing that a house filled with love, laughter, and everyday messes is far more meaningful than a picture-perfect one. Keeping things simple, organized, and functional allows her family to relax, unwind, and truly connect.

When selecting decor, Tess looks for pieces that are versatile, well-crafted, and timeless. Likha+Mundo’s dedication to thoughtful design and sustainability aligns with her approach to creating a home that is both stylish and practical.

Her ultimate advice? “A meaningful home isn’t about perfection—it’s about creating a space that nurtures your well-being and reflects who you are. Focus on what brings you comfort, joy, and a sense of peace, whether that’s through the objects you surround yourself with, the atmosphere you create, or the moments shared with loved ones. A home becomes beautiful when it reflects your heart and supports your well-being."

JOYCE: The Power of Joyful Spaces

Joyce’s approach to home styling is deeply inspired by the philosophy of Marie Kondo—every piece in her home must spark joy. She believes that we see every day should bring us happiness. She carefully curates decor that resonates with her emotions, ensuring that each item contributes to an uplifting atmosphere. Living plants are an essential part of her home, bringing life and warmth to every corner. “Artificial plants have no place in my home,” she says with a laugh.

Though she is not yet a mother (but hopefully soon!), Joyce believes in creating a space that is harmonious, comforting, and full of character. She pays special attention to scent and lighting, understanding their power in shaping moods and evoking cherished memories. She explains that lighting is a simple yet transformative tool—it can completely change the ambiance of a home.

Joyce is always on the lookout for home decor that surprises and inspires. She fell in love with Likha+Mundo’s unique approach to paper-mâché, appreciating the brand’s ability to turn recycled materials into artful treasures.

Her guiding philosophy in home styling? Your home, your rules! Your home serves as your personal sanctuary, and it is vital to cultivate an environment that fosters happiness. Embrace the freedom to make choices that resonate with your personal essence, as you have but one house to which you can truly call home.”

HERALDINE: Creating a Home of Comfort and Character

For Heraldine, home styling is about crafting a space that is warm, welcoming, and full of heart. She gravitates toward natural and earthy tones, which create a sense of calm while allowing key decor pieces to stand out. Mixing old and new elements, she builds a home that is unique, personal, and timeless. “Comfort is always a priority,” she says. She wants her home to be a place where her family can recharge, make memories, and feel at peace.

Motherhood has reinforced her belief that a home should be a space of emotional security and love. It’s not just about beautiful decor—it’s about presence, connection, and the little moments that make life meaningful. Whether it’s preparing a favorite meal or embracing the occasional mess, she sees these experiences as the true essence of homemaking.

Heraldine is drawn to decor that balances aesthetics and function. She particularly loves Likha+Mundo’s Dalo Woven Box, appreciating its blend of practicality and handcrafted beauty. For her, timeless, artisanal designs make a home feel lived-in and inviting.

Her homestyling tip? "In Create: At Home With Old & New, Ali Heath said '...when you choose to live the way you want, surrounded by the things that make you happy, it feels more freeing, exciting, and timeless.' This quote resonates with what I believe a meaningful home should be. Instead of following the newest trends, it is much more worthwhile to fill your home with things that bring you joy and warmth. At the end of the day, your home should be a place for you to let your mind and body feel at ease."

SHEREEN: Elegance in Simplicity

Shereen draws inspiration from Shea McGee of Studio McGee, admiring her ability to bring elegance to modern farmhouse-style homes. She loves how she selects pieces that are simple yet make a lasting impact. This philosophy guides Shereen’s approach to styling, where every choice is intentional, and every piece adds to the overall harmony of her home.

As a mother of two, she has learned to embrace the realities of family life. “There will always be cluttered toys on one side, food spills on the dining area, and maybe doodles on the wall,” she admits with a smile. Because of this, she prioritizes durable, low-maintenance materials that allow her children to play freely without worry. She also believes that a well-styled home sets the tone for comfort and hospitality, ensuring that both family and guests feel instantly at ease.

Shereen’s love for rustic, bohemian-inspired pieces with earthy tones and touches of gold led her to Likha+Mundo. “It was really love at first sight,” she says. “It has that homey vibe with a touch of elegance. All the products are beautifully crafted by hand, sourced carefully and sold at reasonable prices. I like how each piece can stand on its own, but even better to style them together. I will buy the whole collection if I could!”

Her advice for homemakers? "Less is more. You don’t have to fill in every space of your home. You’ll appreciate the beauty of each décor piece, furniture or even the color of your walls better." Let every decor piece breathe—when you give space to what matters, you appreciate its beauty even more.
